Marc Guggenheim é mais conhecido por trabalhar nas séries de super-heróis da CW, mas seu trabalho também se estende à Marvel, especificamente com os quadrinhos da série X-Men Gold. Contudo, assumir uma história dos X-Men pode ser assustador.
Uma das franquias mais populares das histórias em quadrinhos, as histórias dos mutantes contaram com contribuição de grandes roteiristas, e ainda que Stan Lee e Jack Kirby tenham criado a equipe, Chris Claremont foi o responsável por elevar sua popularidade à máxima potência. Em entrevista ao Comic Book, Guggenheim observou que nada pode ser comparado ao trabalho de Claremont.
“Serei sincero. Não acho que há nada comparável ao que Chris Claremont fez. Tudo parece perder cor quando é comparado com seu trabalho.”
Claremont escreveu histórias dos X-Men por mais de 16 anos, coisa que nenhum escritor conseguiu até agora. Personagens conhecidas como Vampira, Mística e Emma Frost, além de sagas icônicas como A Saga da Fênix Negra e Dias de Um Futuro Esquecido, foram co-criadas por ele.
“Meu objetivo, honestamente, é apenas escrever o melhor quadrinho dos X-Men. Tento não pensar no que aconteceu antes, porque acho que provavelmente seria um pouco debilitante. Minha abordagem é tentar misturar um pouco de nostalgia com um pouco de novidade. E, de certa forma, tirei inspiração do trabalho de Chris.”
Duas novas edições de X-Men Gold são lançadas a cada mês pela Marvel. A revista, atualmente, está em sua vigésima edição.
