O mangá Death Note, criado pela dupla Tsugumi Ohba (roteiro) e Takeshi Obata (arte) – e que também virou animê e filme live action – foi publicado no Brasil pela Editora JBC em dois formatos: a revista mensal em 13 edições (2007-2008) e a Black Edition, com toda a trama reunida em seis volumes (2013). Agora, a editora lançará o sétimo volume, Death Note – Black Edition – How to Read (formato 13,5 x 20,5 cm, 280 páginas, R$ 39,00), uma espécie de enciclopédia, que inclui biografia de personagens, resumo da linha temporal da história, entrevista com os criadores, notas e comentários de produção e extras. Além disso, traz o “mangá piloto” feito em 2003, que introduziu o conceito da trama de forma tão assustadora quanto interessante.
A edição será lançada em dezembro, mas já está em pré-venda na Amazon Brasil, com desconto. As biografias dos personagens são detalhadas e ilustradas. E não trazem somente os personagens centrais da trama: estão presentes todos os shinigamis, os policiais, os oficiais. É revelado até o nome do misterioso detetive, com uma descrição de seus terríveis hábitos alimentares e o conteúdo de seu estômago. Takeshi Obata aparece numa das seções de entrevistas, com o processo de criação de personagens, storyboards e diversos rascunhos. Ohba conta detalhes de como criava a trama e detalha como foi o processo de criação da dupla. Death Note é um mangá sobre um estudante do ensino médio que descobre um caderno sobrenatural que o permite matar qualquer pessoa ao escrever nele o nome da vítima, enquanto mentaliza o seu rosto. A história conta as tentativas do personagem Light Yagami em criar e liderar um mundo livre de maldades usando o caderno, e os diversos conflitos que acontecem devido às ações do jovem, incluindo a investigação pelo maior detetive do mundo, L.
