Mort Walker, o criador de Recruta Zero, faleceu. O cartunista tinha 94 anos, Walker morreu no dia 27 de janeiro em sua casa em Stamford, Connecticut, por pneumonia. Sua morte foi confirmada por Bill Morrison, o presidente da National Cartoonists Society. A causa da morte foi uma pneumonia. A informação é da agência The Associated Press.
Walker criou Recruta Zero em 1950. Walker desenhou as tirinhas, um elemento básico das seções de quadrinhos do jornal, por 70 anos, a mais longa duração de uma tirinha para qualquer artista americano da história.
Recruta Zero foi distribuído pelo King Features Syndicate. A tira foi distribuída através de 1.800 jornais em mais de 50 países, chegando a uma audiência de mais de 200 milhões. No Brasil, o famoso Recruta teve suas histórias publicadas por diversas editoras (Saber, RGE, Nova Sampa, Globo, L&PM, Opera Graphica, Pixel Media).
O Recruta Zero e os outros personagens da tirinha apareceram em quadrinhos, em desenhos animados, jogos, brinquedos, livros, musicais e selos postais.
