A nova geração do Wi-Fi começa a ganhar corpo. A Asus revelou seu primeiro roteador compatível com o novo padrão 802.11ax, com velocidades que chegam aos 6.000 Mbps divididos em dois canais, com as tradicionais frequências de 2,4 GHz e 5 GHz. Trata-se do modelo RT-AX88U.
Além da velocidade, o roteador se destaca dos demais pela tecnologia MU-MIMO e a tecnologia OFDMA (sigla para divisão de frequência ortogonal para acesso múltiplo) que faz com que o sistema lide melhor com múltiplos dispositivos conectados à rede. A promessa é que com essas tecnologias, o roteador sustente velocidades 4 vezes maiores em redes com muitos aparelhos do que uma alternativa com 802.11ac.
Para quem não sabe, os roteadores sem fio funcionam, de modo geral, transmitindo informações para um dispositivo conectado por vez. O aparelho alterna rapidamente entre os celulares, laptops, tablets, consoles ou quaisquer outros eletrônicos conectados de modo que a transição é, geralmente, imperceptível. No entanto, quando há muitos dispositivos, a fila começa a ficar maior do que a capacidade do roteador, e começa a haver perda de qualidade da internet. É quando as páginas começam a carregar devagar e os vídeos começam a travar. A nova geração do Wi-Fi está mais preparada para lidar com isso, porque permite que o roteador se comunique com vários aparelhos simultaneamente, reduzindo a fila e o tempo de espera. Isso torna a tecnologia mais adequada aos dias modernos, preparando o terreno para a casa conectada.
Em relação a design, o RT-AX88U é um avanço em relação a outros produtos que a Asus lançou ao longo dos anos. Ele certamente não é tão elegante quanto o Blue Cave, apresentado em maio de 2017, mas nem de longe é tão rústico quanto o RT-AC5300, que parecia uma aranha com as patas para cima.
A Asus ainda não deu data de lançamento do RT-AX88U, mas divulgou uma estimativa para o primeiro semestre deste ano, ainda sem previsão de preço.
